How to host a sustainable Summer picnic

How to host a sustainable Summer picnic

Hey there, part of summer means spending lots of time outside, so we are getting together with our loved ones for an easy summer picnic set up. We've found that this setup makes it easy to enjoy a meal outside while still having all the comforts of home. Here are our tips:

Bring a cotton tablecloth to lay over the picnic blanket, it will protect your blanket and keep things clean and tidy.

That will minimize the amount of work you need to do while you're enjoying a meal outside.

For our side dishes, we're packing some roasted potatoes, green salad with carrots and sprouts, strawberry cucumber salad with feta cheese and mint, and some cucumber hummus bites with cream cheese and chives. Also, we have lots of strawberry popsicles to keep us nice and cool.

We're bringing out some champagne so we can toast to a great day filled with good friends.

We're also bringing a cooler to keep everything chilled because we always love an excuse for a nice glass of rosé or wine in the summertime.

Every year, Americans toss out more than 25 million tons of food, and nearly 40% of food in the U.S. is wasted annually. That's the equivalent of about $165 billion – enough to fill 28,500 tractor-trailers. In efforts to minimize the amount of waste we produce, this summer, I’m taking steps to reduce its environmental impact by hosting picnics that are more sustainable. Our produce is from Hungry Harvest subscription. They deliver fresh food that would otherwise go to waste straight to your door. Every week, Harvest deliveries save at least 10 pounds of food from going to waste, help close food access gaps and work to reduce our overall environmental impact. As you can see my box is filled with farm-fresh, high-quality produce!
You can customize your box with whatever you want and it will be on your doorstep before you know it. I highly recommend ordering weekly boxes from Hungry Harvest, use discount code NADINE50 for 50% off your first purchase!.

Today I'm sharing easy tips on how to enjoy the outdoors without harming the environment Summer is the perfect time to enjoy a picnic with friends or family.

  • Use reusable plates, cups, and utensils - Ditch the disposables and opt for reusable plates, cups, and utensils. Not only will this save you money in the long run, but it will also reduce your environmental impact.

  • Bring your own food - sourcing local, organic, and seasonal produce is the best way to enjoy a sustainable summer picnic. If you're short on time, there are plenty of great recipes that can be made ahead of time.

  • Choose a sustainable location - When planning your picnic, choose a location that is easy to access and doesn't require a lot of travel. Consider a park or beach that is close to home.

  • Leave no trace - Once you've finished enjoying your picnic, make sure to dispose of all your waste properly. If possible, compost any food scraps and recycle any plastic or glass packaging.
